Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located at Agra city in India. It is located north-west to Taj Mahal at a distance of 2.5kms. Agra fort was more than a fort. It can be said as small city surrounded by wall. It was originally a brick fort of held by Hindu Sikarwar Rajputs. During that time it was known as Badalgarh. Later, after Panipat war, Mughals captured this fort along with treasures hidden here. Considering its strategical importance and central location, Akbar declared it his capital and arrived in Agra in year 1558. During that time it was in a ruined condition. Akbar had made it rebuilt with red sandstone. Architects made it with brick in inner core and and red sandstone in outer surface. It took 8 years to build this fort into its original look and was completed in year 1573. After that Akbar's grandson made some changes in fort and get it in its current look. Agra fort is spread on 94 acres of land in semicircular plan. It offers the view of Yamuna river and Taj Mahal.
Attractions inside Agra fort are: Mina Masjid, Moti Masjid, Musamman Burj, Rang Mahal, Nagina Masjid, Shah Jahani Mahal, Sahi Burj, Anguri Bagh, Diwan-e-am, Diwan-e-khas, Machali Bhawan, Khas Mahal etc. It is most important fort of India. Some of great Mughal emperors like Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jehan and Aurangzed lived here and governed the country.
