Chandigarh

Chandigarh has a large number of tourist destinations. It is the capital state of Punjab and Haryana.The initial plans of the city were drawn in New York by Albert Mayer and Matthew Novicki. When Mr. Matthew Novicki died in an air crash in 1950, the work was entrusted to architect Le Corbusier, a French architect. Chandigarh derives its name from a Chandi means the (Goddess of Power). Chandigarh is one of the best planned cities in India. The city’s beautiful gardens and the well placed trees along the roads sides has created another name for the Chandigarh state known as ‘The City Beautiful”.

It is also called the face of modern India. The city’s roads, sectors, parks and the city centre is a role model that many Indian cities have followed later. It is here that the trees and plants are as much a part of the construction plans as the buildings and the roads. There are many tourist attractions in Chandigarh which are important for tourism in Punjab. Such as Rock garden which is a marvelous example of how a wonder can be created out of completely wasted materials.

If you visit Chandigarh you must visit Rose Garden which is another surprise for the lovers of natural beauty. Here every year Rose Festival are organized and it is the largest rose garden in Asia. There are more than 50,000 rose trees and above1600 species of the unque flowers. Along with these gardens there are some other gardens in the city, which include the Leisure Valley, Rajendra Park, Zakir Rose Garden, Smriti Upavan; Shanti Kunj .The best season to visit Chandigarh is from October to March.

By Air: Chandigarh's airport is 12 km from the city centre and has daily flights to Delhi and Amritsar, Mumbai Jammu.

By Train:

Chandigarh Railway Station is about 8kms from the City Centre.  Chandigarh is connected by rail to many cities in Punjab, Haryana and also to Delhi. reguler trains are running between Delhi and Chandigarh (260 km).

By Road:

The city has an excellent road-network. State owned and operated buses connect Chandigarh to the nearby cities in Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh has frequent bus connections to Patiala (70 km), Kalka (25 km), Anandpur Sahib (90 km), Amritsar (217 km), Delhi (238 km), Shimla (110 km), Manali (323 km)
