Omkareshwar is a sacred island located at the convergence of river Narmada and Kaveri in Khandwa district of State of Madhya Pradesh in India. Shape of island is like the holiest of all Hindu symbols, ‘Om’. It is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. Out of 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva, 2 (Ujjain & Omkareshwar) are present in Madhya Pradesh. Here we can see both Satpura hills and Vindhychal hills.There are two temples here, one is Omkareshwar temple and second one is Amareshwar temple. Omkareshwar means “Om-shaper-lord” and Amareshwar means “Immortal-lord”.
Here one should must see Shri Omkar Mandhata temple, Siddhanath temple, 24 Avatars (cluster of temples), Satmtrika Temple, Kajalrani Cave (9km. from Omkareshwar).
Omkareshwar is about 75km. away from Indore. Nearest Airport and Railway-station is in Indore city. It is on Indore-Khandwa highway. Omkareshwar can be visited in a day.
